We also invite you to join our worship services.

BRIEF HISTORY

Growth implies multiplication and segregation. Salem Mar Thoma Church was the only place of worship for the entire Mar Thoma community in the main Cochin city, till 1978. In 1978, some of the members of the Salem church, who were residing at Kaloor, Palarivattom and Edapally area, decided to have a new church in their locality and that was how Sharon Mar Thoma Church, Palarivattom was formed.

In a special prayer meeting of the South Prayer group of the Salem Mar Thoma Church on 14th January 1979, it was decided to acquire land for a worship place for the members residing in Kadavanthara, Gandhi Nagar, Elamkulam, Vytilla and Tripunithura. As such y God’s grace, 24.765 cents of land was purchased on 8th November 1980 in Elamkulam. On 14th February 1986, the foundation stone of the Church building was laid by Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitan. With prayerful guidance and liberal financial support of the members, the construction of the church building got completed. The new church was dedicated and consecrated as Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church on November 26th, 1988 by the Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Metropolitan. Rev. M P Yohannan, the then vicar of Salem Mar Thoma church, extended his service as vicar of this church also till April 1989. On 1st January 1989, regular church services started in the new building with 199 family members. On 1st May 1989, Rev. Kurian Thomas was appointed as the first vicar of the church.

Today we are having about 610 subscribing families in 18 prayer groups, with about 2500 members. We are proud that our Parish is one among the largest in the Sabha. In 2014, we celebrated the Silver Jubilee in a befitting manner. We thank Jesus Christ, for His grace to extend His works in different fields of missionary and charity works through our Parish in and around our area.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13; (NKJV))
