MAR THOMA CENTER FOR PAIN AND PALLIATIVE CARE

Mar Thoma Center for Pain and Palliative Care, inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan was established in December 19, 2004. It functions as the service unit of Mar Thoma Church Development Project of Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church, Elamkulam. It has 30 plus Volunteers from among Church members. Have over 300 terminally ill patients registered with the Center. Volunteers visit each patient at home give counseling, medical assistance and to a limited extend educational and rehabilitation support to children of patients.

Mission:

Care for the terminally ill, aged and the neglected.

Objectives:

1. To provide palliative care to needy, poor and aged members of the society, in and around Kochi and to improve quality of life in general.
2. To sponsor and conduct Medical, Educational, Moral, Social, Cultural and Economical Service Activities with no profit motives.

Activities:

1. Home care visits.
2. Counselling for patients and family members.
3. Medical assistance and support to children of deserving patients.
4. Doctors / Nurses visits to patients.
5. Regular visits to cancer and palliative wards of the General Hospital.

Areas Covered:

Mulavukadu, Vypin, Edavanakadu, Cherai, Fort Kochi, Vadattupara, Keerampara and Malayinkeezh, in addition to all Prayer Group areas of the parish.

Volunteers:

Thirty volunteers drawn from across section of members of the parish, in twelve groups, visit around 300 terminally ill patients, once a month or more frequently as required.

Financial Support:

Though Financial help is not the primary mission of any palliative care centres, with the generous contributions of members of our parish, we support our patients for chemo-therapy, dialysis, medicines, etc. in a limited scale.

Other Supports:

1. Educational assistance during beginning of class.
2. Marriage aid.
3. House repair to very deserving patients.
4. Rehabilitation.
5. Food kit distribution during Christmas / New year season.

Edavanakadu Mission Center:

After ten years of palliative work in Vypin area, initiated by our Palliative center, Edavaka Mission and JMTC Development Project, the Mission Center was inaugurated on 13th January 2013 by Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Makarios Episcopa, as the Silver Jubilee project of the parish.

Started as a fellowship for sick and bereaved families, the building at Aniyal, is the center of action for:
1. Palliative Care
2. Rehabilitation activities for the sick and neglected.
3. Health care programmes and regular medical camps.
4. Educational hub for students of sick and needy people of the area.
5. Tuition Centres.
6. Vacation Guidance Classes.
7. Prayer Fellowships

How can you participate:

1. Pray for our activities, patients, volunteers and donors.
2. Spread message of this service to the society around you.
3. Introduce / recommend deserving patients to the center.
4. Donate generously as you can for this cause as this is funded by donations only.

Financial help is received from the generous contributions of parishners and well-wishers. Any contribution to the Centre may be made by a/c payee cheque or remittance to the Federal Bank account in the name of 'Mar Thoma Centre for Pain and Palliative Care'. Bank details are given below:
