CHURCH CHOIR

O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the people. Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him; talk of all His wondrous works. Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Psalm 105:1 — 3

Taking the cue from choirs in Biblical times, it is clear that the role of the choir in the Church is one of ministry. The Bible shows us that God likes humankind to praise and worship Him. For this, He set apart the tribe of Levi. King David appointed Levites as singers and musicians. These singers and musicians ministered day and night in the tabernacle and later in the temple - these were some of the first earthly choirs assigned to serve God through song.

Jerusalem Mar Thoma church is blessed with a choir of about 40 male and about 55 female voices. There are even more members in the junior choir. It is our ministry to sing and praise Lord Almighty during worship. We help the congregation in responding to the leaders call.

Worships in marriage is not complete without hymns and songs of praise. In our ministry we praise God for his blessings showered upon mankind and to shower his blessings on the couple and their family as they unite in Christ. It's a proclamation and affirmation of God's presence.

Praise and worship is probably the most important aspect of Christian walk. It is through praise and worship that we as Christians draw near to God. It is not an outward performance but from heart. We use song service as a platform to worship God through new songs.

December is festive season which instils the joy of Christmas. It's a time where we glorify His name and meditate upon the word of God. It is a time of God showing His great love for mankind. It is a time for healing and renewed faith and strength. It's a time of caring, sharing and giving. Carols form an indispensable part of Christmas worship. Dedication and faith lead to lovely praises.

Glorifying God is not just an inward experience. We use all opportunities to reach out to all and glorify His name, so that it also becomes an outward experience. Our junior choir participates in YWCA carols and senior choir participates in the YMCA ecumenical choir held during the month of December.
