The Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam was formed with a view that all young people in the Church should accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and bear witness to his saving power. It was organised in 1933 by a resolution of the Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam. Branches of the Sakhyam were set up in the Parishes with a four-fold programme of worship, study, witness and service.

The Jerusalem Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam has been playing an active role in equipping the Youth of the Church spiritually right from the inception of ministry in the Elamkulam Parish. The various activities undertaken by the Sakhyam are:

  • Weekly meetings every Sunday after the first Service.
  • Praise and Worship Services on the second Saturday of every month.
  • Training and involvement of Youth in Church activities during English Communion Service.
  • Annual Camp led by expert Youth leaders at scenic camp sites.
  • Outreach programmes to mission-oriented, charitable organisations.
  • House-to-house carol rounds in the month of December, to the households of all Parish members, the proceeds of which are earmarked to support the educational needs of youngsters.
  • Annual Retreat organized on the 31st of December before the Watch Night Service.

Apart from these activities the Sakhyam also volunteers in leading Sunday School retreats, Vacation Bible School, and also medical camps organised by other organisations of the church.

The Silver Jubilee of the Sakhyam was celebrated in 2014.
